Choosing the right cage for your pet sugar glider is very important

Choose your sugar glider cage wisely. Cages for gliders should be ample size and at the very least be 2' by 2' by 3' for one pet sugar glider but bigger is always better. Cages should be made from either PVC coated metal wire, powder coated, or solid steel and not just painted metal as this will chip if your glider chews on it. Beware of some cages made for birds or other small animals as sometimes they are made from low quality metals and cheaply coated with paints that can chip and expose sometimes poisonous metal to your glider, Zinc is one example of a dangerous metal to your glider even if it does not chew on the metal itself. Over time and exposure to the gliders coat the metal particles will build up and when your glider cleans itself (which they love to do frequently) it will be ingesting this material and may be fatal. That being said high quality bird cages work well if made from the right material and have proper bar spacing.

Bars on your sugar gliders cage should not be more than 1/2" by 1" or your glider may squeeze out and escape. Bars should also be horizontal and not vertical (like on most bird cages) so they can easily climb about. Vertical bars may strain your gliders hands and feet to latch on as struggle not to slide down them.

Where can i find a FREE or CHEAP Sugar glider cage?

It can be hard to find a good cage for you glider in a general pet store and they are often very expensive.

Sometimes you can find cheap or even free cages on craigslist, kijiji, or other classifieds in your area.

Ebay is another place to find cheap cages but be sure they are appropriate for your glider and beware of shipping charges as they can be excessive if not free.

Build one yourself! While this option is not for everyone its great for the do it yourself people out there. PVC coated wire mesh can be purchased at most hardware stores and your can build a cage to fit your size and shape needs and save some money in the process.
